Welcome to the Notes for Breakfast website

Notes for Breakfast is a Dutch acoustic band that makes Country-Americana music.

The band was raised in the very south of The Netherlands and consists of Jorn van Engelshoven, Niels Bouman, Manuel Theunissen and Erik Henderiks

They write their own songs, often with two- or more part vocals, and play most of the instruments themselves; instruments like acoustic guitar, dobro, banjo, ukulele, mandolin, melodica, cahon and bass.

Jorn and Niels met in a music bar in their local village.

There they found out that they have musical heroes in common like Johnny Cash, Queen, Crosby Stills Nash & Young and Radiohead, to name a few.

Together with singer Peggy, the foundation was then laid for what initially became the band "Solid Three", an acoustic cover band with three-part vocals.

After having a lot of nice performances and local success, the ways of the band members separated from each other due to different ambitions.

Jorn and Niels then continued under a new name: Notes for Breakfast.

After many try-outs in local bars with their self-written songs, which generated a lot of appreciation from the public and which made them believe they were doing something great, they started recording their debut EP: ‘First Notes’ on Evergreen Recordings.

This was received with great success, which turned to a number of nice radio shows.

Still, Jorn and Niels missed something in their live sound.

By placing an ad, Manuel has joined with cajon and small percussion.

To complete the sound, only a bass player was missing.

And there was Erik, a good friend of Manuel.

The four of them form: Notes for Breakfast

Jorn and Niels have always written their own songs, but never really found a like-minded person to interpret and elaborate on them.

It was therefore surprising that when they started working on their own music together with Manuel and Erik, a kind of magic arose in which they complemented each other perfectly.

Recently, Notes for Breakfast started recording their second, as yet untitled, EP.

This will again contain cheerful and beautiful Americana music, with the difference that it will now be sung in Dutch.
